Another one of God’s lessons for me…..
I had fully submitted to Him….or so I thought. But it seems that I still had things to let go of.
Luke 18:16:17
But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”
Being like a little child means that you solely rely on your parents,/caregiver. Whoever that is…….is your everything! Do you remember that time in your life? Do you yourself have children? Think hard about this one, meditate on it. When we were little children we were dependant on someone to feed us, clothe us, put shelter over our heads and to keep us safe. We were to little to know any enter we just ” went with the flow ” and let it happen as it happened. But then we grow, we learn, get our own thoughts, ideas. Along the way we have choices to make, do I wear this outfit or that one? Do I eat this banna or piece of cake? Do I rent this apartment or buy a house? Our parents/caregivers, mentors , teachers , pastors ( if you are brought up like that) are all part of helping us grow and learn to think for ourselves ( hopefully) we are not children anymore.
To God, though, we still are!
I didn’t grow up in a particularly religious home. I was fortunate enough to have religion in my life at a young age. This is what I believe ultimately saved my entire life! When I was twelve I accepted Christ, was baptized and recieved the Holy spirit. I can never forget that moment! But, Religion, getting to know Jesus and God, did not continue.
I grew up. God gives us free will and I made my own decisions…..bad ones. That’s what I get for doing it on my own! Now, thirty nine years after I accepted Christ….I do not make one decision…I don’t take one step in any direction without the guidance from God! How? You ask.
I wake everyday, give thanks to God for its beauty ( even when its drab, rainy and cold!) I then ask God what will He have me to today. Yup….I really do! And then you know what I do?….I listen!
Naaaaa….it’s not like listening to the lady on Garmin ( thats on-star for the younger croup…or Google maps) It’s clearing your mind, trusting, leaning fully into God, being at peace, free of anxiety, fears and chatter in your head. It’s just knowing that God has got you no matter what comes your way!
Is this easy?…..Not at first! Don’t be discouraged. Building a relationship, intimacy and trust takes work. But if you put your mind back to when you were that child, and you knew nothing else except; that spoon was going to come to your mouth to feed you, your nappy was going to be change and you would have clothes on… and that you would have a place to sleep…..blind , innocent,, trust like that……thats what God wants! He is our Father!
How do you start?
Start with prayer, discipline yourself to read the Bible every day! Pray everyday. I prefer to keep the prayer line open and just talk to God all day! That way I can just ask for guidance throughout the day.
Luke 11:9 NIV
“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
Now let’s talk about that real quick. ( I have written in more detail on that passage but here is a quick reminder).
When we ask, remeber its not like it may just ,poof, happen. In prayer this is a time to align our hearts with God’s will……so be open! Prayer is the time to get to know God and share yourself with him. He in return ( if you FULLY lean into Him) will let you know Him! Not kidding!!!
So do it! Be dependant on God!!! The most perfect Father we could ever ask for!
Luke 22:42 NIV
“Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”
